MOTHER NATURE WINS OPENING DAY OF THE DIAMOND NATIONALS ...By Gary Lileck

Forestville, PA - September 26, 2009 Although forecasts predicted rain to start later in the evening, Mother Nature decided to spoil the party early Saturday at Big Diamond Raceway. Day one of the Landis C. Deck/Yuenging Diamond Nationals was cancelled due to rain.

It is no secret that weather has not been kind to the Big Diamond Raceway in 2009. This was the 11th rain out of the season. Unfriendly weather has also plagued the Diamond Nationals. It cancelled some events in the past and completely wiped out the 2008 event.

Weather reports call for the rain to end by Sunday morning, which means that Big Diamond Raceway is prepared to present the Diamond Nationals in a special one day format, Sunday September 27.

The Extreme Roadrunners (20-laps/$500 to win) have been added to the card. Several invading Roadrunners were in the pit area for day one, along with a healthy array of Big Diamond regulars.

The Open Competition Small Block Modifieds headline Sunday's program. They will compete in a 50-lap feature paying $5000 to win. The Sportsman division will showcase their talents in a $1200 to win 25-lap main event.

Gates open at 2:00PM and qualifying begins at 5:00PM. Pit admission is $30, the grandstands cost $15, and children 12 and under are free.
